On 11th June 2008, Morgan Contract Furniture notched up yet another environmental award, this time as recipients of the 2008 Chichester District Council Green Business of the Year. The judges recognised the wide range of waste management initiatives that have been successfully incorporated at Morgan such as wood-burning boilers providing space heating for the factory fuelled by offcuts from the manufacturing process.
The award is the latest in a string of ‘green’ successes achieved by the company in just the last seven months. Rodney McMahon, Managing Director of Morgan Contract Furniture, comments “It’s easy to talk the talk when it comes to green issues, so we hope that our record speaks for itself in demonstrating that lean and green are core to our philosophy at Morgan and intrinsic to the way in which we conduct our business every day and touching every aspect of what we do” .
He adds ‘I’m delighted that the award included a cheque for £4,000 from Chichester Council and a staff team-building day at the Sussex Wildlife Trust as a reward for the team’s hard work and commitment. Green and efficient business practises have to be embraced by every single team member in order to achieve our level of success.”

In our continuing commitment to be an environmental leader, Morgan established, and achieved, an aggressive plan in 2004 to reduce overall impact on the environment, so as to significantly reduce consumption of raw materials, energy usage, VOC’s, landfill waste recovery and disposal and water usage. We intend to be proactive in our environmental efforts, and rather than just complying with environmental regulations and other requirements, to actively prevent pollution.
As a finalist in the SEEDA Sustainable Environment Award Morgan has been recognized for our business success achieved by improved environmental performance.
The award is open to all business sectors and recognises best practice in the protection or enhancement of the environment., for example a reduction in resources, improvements to discharges, recycling schemes etc
Successful organisations demonstrated how environmental considerations are built into strategic planning and daily operations. It may be that an organisation’s core area of activity relates to environmental enhancement, or it may be that significant efforts have been made to mitigate impacts of business action.

Lean and Green Contract Furniture from Morgan
MORE >> |
|
On 9th April 2008, Morgan Contract Furniture successfully achieved BS8555 level 5 accreditation for Environmental Management Systems and is one of the earliest adopters of this recent British Standard.
This latest success is further recognition of the company’s lean and green approach to manufacturing with effective measures to minimise environmental impact at every stage of the process including materials sourcing, design, manufacturing, recycling of waste, packaging and final delivery to the customer.
Rodney McMahon, Managing Director of Morgan Contract Furniture, said “Our passion for lean and green at Morgan delivers universal rewards for ourselves and our customers. Many efficiencies we have implemented have resulted in reduction in waste, thereby saving us money, and at the same time improved service and product quality to the customer.
Possessing a green bill of health is also important to customers, who nowadays, are not only judged on their own eco-credentials but also those of their suppliers. A critical factor in our recent success in winning the British Airways contract to supply seating for their new Terminal 5 First and Business Class Lounges at Heathrow was due to their assessment team judging our environmental credentials as being significantly better than other UK manufacturers.”

Morgan are launching a development of the popular Boston range for outdoor and conservatory spaces. MORE >> |
|
Seeking an innovative, and sustainable, solution to the growing demand for outdoor and conservatory spaces, Morgan are launching a development of the popular Boston range.
The range is manufactured in Iroko, deliberately not choosing teak which is often illegally logged. Iroko is a sustainably managed African hardwood which will weather beautifully when left untreated. Boston Terrace allows the specifier to blend the aesthetics, comfort and versatility of the indoor Boston with an outdoor version. Cushions, in outdoor water repellent and lightfast fabrics, have ties and handles that allow fixing and easy carrying into storage.
As with Morgan’s usual practice of comprehensive and complementary ranges, the Boston Terrace includes a ladder back lounger, dining side and armchair as well as dining, coffee and console tables.
