In Autumn 2008, Morgan Furniture, the design-led UK manufacturer of contract furniture, supplied a selection of its finely-crafted dining chairs, bar stools and tables to the newly refurbished Searcy’s restaurant within the Barbican. As the largest multi-arts centre in Europe, the Barbican is a magnet for culture-hungry visitors in search of stimulation, adventure and refreshment in the capital’s heartland.
With spectacular views of the city skyline and highly acclaimed food and wine, Searcy’s provides the perfect pit-stop for discerning guests who come to sample the Modern British cuisine in the restaurant, bar and private dining room for up to 14 people. The Diva Collection from Morgan provides the superior standards of comfort and high quality finish expected by Searcy’s guests and with its pure minimal lines is ideally suited to the interior design scheme. Both bar stool and dining chair feature a gap at the base of the back which allows them to be easily moved without handling from the top of the seat. This gap forms a rectangular shape with curved corners, a shape which is mirrored in the ceiling design of the bar and lends a subtle but distinctly retro feel to the space. Comfort is ensured by upholstery on the seat and backs of the Diva bar stool and dining chair in soft beige leather and, in some areas, classic brown and beige herringbone tweed. Polished legs in dark wood add gravitas and contrast to the overall neutral palette of cream and beige. Morgan also supplied a range of its wooden topped tables with single metal pedestal for modern, functional dining.
Morgan was appointed by MWB, working with their in-house design team at Searcy’s. Morgan has collaborated with the designers on many other prestigious projects, including the hotel brands of De Vere Resorts, Verve Venues and Hotel Du Vin.
Searcy’s was established in 1847 and is renowned for operating restaurants, bars and fine dining within some of Britain’s most iconic buildings. In addition to The Barbican, other London venues include the Royal Opera House, the National Portrait Gallery and The Gherkin.
