As the last lovingly designed lights go down on this years Clerkenwell Design Festival we are celebrating another exciting, fun filled event and the first, happy anniversary of our much admired showroom.
We kicked off with caffeine and cupcakes from Little Ocean at our FIRA breakfast event when leading ergonomist Levent Caglar gave an insightful talk on ‘The Evolving Workplace’. The attentive audience included students that are on the shortlist in our Future@Work competition. CDW visitors have been voting for their favourite both online and at the showroom so thanks to everyone who’s made the effort and contributed to the important task of supporting the young designers of the future.
It was our great pleasure to see such a positive response to our combined showcase of carefully considered design and expressive contemporary art by David Shillinglaw. His awe inspiring energy and enthusiasm lit a creative fire amongst his workshops participants and everyone left smiling from the freedom and playfulness of the sessions. Lively conversation and inspirational insights abounded as David shared stories of his extraordinary and entertaining life. The fluidity of his streams of consciousness are mesmerising and we were all delighted to be instructed to ‘celebrate the mistakes’
We had mixed weather this year but come hail or shine Crosta & Mollica gave sunny service with a smile from their Paggio Ape van just outside our showroom entrance. Their freshly made bruschetta was a treat!
The showroom glowed as it filled with shiny, happy people for our new Kyoto bench system launch party on Wednesday evening. Designed by Morgan Studio, inspired by Japanese gardens and upholstered in Andrew Muirhead leather, the benches were stroked, tested, examined, admired and warmly welcomed to the world. By happy coincidence Loch Lomund Brewery ‘s 175th anniversary coincided with our event and so we supped and savioured their special celebration ale. Cheers to Andrew Muirhead for sponsoring the evening.
We’ve soaked up the atmosphere and delighted in the experience of being part of another fantastic, eclectic festival of design. Enormous thanks to all the friends, colleagues and customers who came calling. We’re already basking in the warm glow of a remarkably memorable event.
