At Morgan we aim to support local educational institutions and encourage the next generation’s enthusiasm for British made product and design, as a result, we frequently take on apprentices and work experience students. This year we participated in ‘Teach Me Wood’ – a six month student exchange programme, in association with Chichester College, running from January to June 2016.
The first student to join us through the programme was Edwina, a 23 year old student from Mirefleurs, France, spending three days a week with us in the factory and the remainder at Chichester College with their resident designer maker.
Our Production Manager, Ian Thomas, trained and guided Edwina during her placement, commenting that: “Edwina really applied herself during her time with us, which she spent in the assembly area and the machine shop on the CNC machine. As reward for her support, dedication and hard work, we were delighted to present her with a set of 12 carving chisels.”
This July we also welcomed Ben, age 15, for a weeklong work experience opportunity within production. Ben is currently studying Product Design as one of his GCSE’s at Bourne Community College, and expressed a desire learn more about the industry.
During the week Ben gained experience within a number of our production departments, including Assembly, Polishing, Upholstery and Dispatch, gaining insight across the company and absorbing our manufacturing processes. Whilst he was with us, he was also set a couple of projects, one to create a leather apron and the other to assemble, polish and upholster a Hampton 445T ottoman, which he took home with him.
As a company we feel there is great value in the experiences we offer to students, and encourage those that would be interested in industry experience to apply to email@example.com for the chance to join the team. We are also currently recruiting via our website.
