CDW
Morgan at CDW 2019
Every year Clerkenwell Design Week seems to get sunnier and busier! Thank you to everyone that joined us and made it the week it was. For anyone that was unable to attend, here is what we got up to.
Our theme this year was ‘Plant a Seed’, and in the lead up to CDW we transformed our showroom once again to feature a commissioned art installation by British artist and long time friend David Shillinglaw, who we previously showcased in 2015. Entitled ‘Alive in the Human Hive’, David’s colourful installation filled our main wall from floor to ceiling with bold shapes and colours, representing the human landscape from macro to micro and including a number of detailed canvases that are up for sale.
On the Tuesday afternoon we welcomed back Melita Skamnaki and Wilhelm Finger, directors of Double Decker, a London-based studio specialising in art curation for hotels, alongside journalist Harry McKinley for a discussion on ‘Redefining Hotel Artwork’.
After an insightful discussion and Q&A, the talk quickly turned into our annual product launch party, in celebration of our new Rakino collection with Tim Rundle and Goodwood table additions with Mark McClure. With a flowing bar, tasty canapés, live music that made it impossible to not tap your feet, and a showroom full of guests, we were set for a brilliant night.
Alongside David Shillinglaw’s unique art installation, is a large-scale installation of Tom Raffield’s Arame and Quill pendant lights flowing across our window front in a cascade of organic curves. Beneath this installation, and their elegant Flock chandelier, Tom Raffield gave a talk on the Wednesday about ‘Taking Inspiration from Nature’. Using such a natural material and method, Tom’s designs perfectly mirror the biophilic forms and patterns found in our natural surroundings.
On the final evening, we were delighted to host the Mix 30 under 30 event, celebrating the up and coming designers of our industry, alongside sponsors Hunters and Allgood. It was a pleasure to work alongside the Mix team and to watch worthy nominees be handed their awards.
Thank you again to everyone that came to visit us this year, and a special thank you to Tim Rundle, Mark McClure, David Shillinglaw, Tom Raffield, Melita Skamnaki and Wilhelm Finger for helping us to make it the week it was.
For anyone that missed the show, please do pop by our showroom this summer to view our latest installations and products. We look forward to welcoming you.
