Mark McClure - 'Surface'21 April 2017
A unique geometric installation by British artist Mark McClure, commissioned by Morgan.
This week, British artist Mark McClure has taken up residency in our Clerkenwell Showroom, transforming it into a neutral geometric haven. Mark’s unique installation has been commissioned to span across our main double height wall, creating a dynamic painted and relief piece constructed from timber and board, even incorporating offcuts and waste material from our workshops.
Mark McClure inhabits an exciting space between the worlds of fine art and visual design - creating studio works, sculpture and murals alongside bespoke surfaces - all with a strong, geometric style. Mark has exhibited widely in the UK and Internationally and has undertaken a number of Public Art commissions and Artist residencies abroad.
Trained as a graphic designer, Mark has worked in design and digital interactive design for a number of years – experience which is still evident in his output and aesthetic. Often working with found and reclaimed materials – Mark’s current works explore themes of structure, public space and our interaction with the built environment.
We believe that Britain is at the forefront of the art and design movement and so celebrate this talent by supporting artists through a series of exhibitions at our showroom, featuring British artists we admire.
Mark McClure’s private view will be on Tuesday 25th April from 6-9pm. Join us for drinks and the unveiling of the completed installation. Please RSVP to email@example.com
Velcro, Zips & Paperclips27 January 2017
On Wednesday evening, a Morgan London design trivia quiz, presented by David Smalley and Mick Jordan from MIX Interiors, took place in our Clerkenwell showroom. With questions from ‘Who invented the paperclip?’ to ‘How many pieces of curved glass are there in The Gherkin?’ – the competition was on.
Joined by seven teams, as well as a non-competing Morgan team, the creative thinking began with the team names: ‘We are only here for the Wine’ – Morey Smith, ‘Let’s Get Quizzical’ – Perkins + Will, ‘2D’ – BDP, ‘The Dealers’ – TFP and Day2, ‘The Avengers’ – Gensler, ‘Radical Party Women’ – RPW Design and ‘Qizzy Lizzy and Co.’ – Goddard Littlefair.
With wine in one hand and popcorn in the other, the teams took their seats for the chance to prove both their creative and general knowledge abilities. Quite quickly a combination of laughter and competitiveness filled the room, with the occasional squeak of excitement followed by a loud ‘shh!’ as answers were scribbled down.
The competition was close as the teams climbed up and dropped down the leader board; all eager to be crowned the winner, but safe in the knowledge that ‘every team will win a prize’, the ten rounds passed by in what seemed like minutes.
The announcement that the scores had been tallied resulted in a sudden reduction in noise levels as the teams eagerly awaited their fate. As Rodney called each teams name from 7th place to 1st place, cheers were given, but none compared to that of our winning team – ‘We are only here for the Wine’!
Congratulations Morey Smith, we hope you enjoyed the evening and we greatly look forward to taking you to the ‘Hair by Sam McKnight’ exhibition at Somerset House, a trip which no doubt, will involve wine!
Thank you to all of the teams that took part in the quiz, it is always a pleasure to fill our showroom with friendly faces and share an evening of merriment. We hope that you had as much fun as we did, and look forward to seeing you at our future events.
We would also like to say a huge thanks to David and Mick from MIX Interiors, who hosted the evening with their natural charm and wit, creating a perfectly positive and competitive atmosphere. We greatly appreciate the time and energy you invested in being a part of ‘Velco, Zips and Paperclips’.
